Green floristry is all about making eco-conscious choices throughout the floral design process—from how flowers are grown and sourced, to how they’re arranged, wrapped, and delivered.

At Hip Poppy, we believe flowers should be beautiful and sustainable. That’s why we offer a hatbox recycling and refill service for our local customers.

Bring back your Hip Poppy hatbox, and we’ll give it a new life—refilled with fresh seasonal blooms and arranged with care, just like the first time.

🌸 We Prioritise Local & Seasonal Blooms

We work closely with UK growers, especially during the British growing season, to source blooms that haven’t racked up air miles or required energy-intensive conditions to grow.

Seasonal flowers are not only better for the environment—they’re fresher, more unique, and help you connect to the time of year in a really special way.

🧵 We Avoid Floral Foam (and Choose Better When We Can’t)

Traditional floral foam is a single-use plastic that breaks down into harmful microplastics—something we actively avoid at Hip Poppy.

Whenever possible, we use foam-free techniques, including hand-tied designs, moss-based mechanics, and reusable vessels. These methods take more time and skill, but they’re far kinder to the planet.

When foam is necessary—for example, in certain funeral tributes or long-lasting arrangements—we choose a biodegradable floral foam alternative that breaks down more safely and quickly in the environment.

♻️ We Use Minimal & Recyclable Packaging

You won’t find plastic wrap, glitter, or synthetic ribbons here. We package our flowers using compostable, recyclable or reusable materials, keeping waste to a minimum and beauty at a maximum.

Our signature hand-tieds are wrapped in kraft paper and tissue, and even our hatboxes are designed to be reused or repurposed.

🚚 Local Delivery = Lower Emissions

We deliver flowers across St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield and the AL1–AL10 postcodes ourselves, cutting down on emissions by working close to home—and soon, selected hatboxes will be available through Deliveroo for even faster local delivery.
